Hear our voice workshop
24/10/2024
Hello! I'm Nicole. I'm a researcher who works with children.
Research is how we discover new things and learn about the world. Our research explores what children need to be healthy and happy.
We think our research is better when children can share their views and ideas. This workshop invites kids to share their opinions on how children can inform research and health care in ways that are fun and interesting.
What will happen in the workshop?
Researchers and children will meet to do some fun activities. Children will be asked to share their thoughts and ideas about what they think it is important for adults to know when they involve children in research, or provide health care.
Listening to the perspectives of children will help to make the research that we do - and care that we provide - even better for children.

More about the workshop
What is involved?
Children will take part in a small group workshop with children of similar ages (group size of 4-10). They will participate in activities that allow them to share their thoughts and ideas about what is most important for us to consider when we involve children and young people in the research activities and service delivery (e.g. outpatient clinics).
What is included?
- Parking voucher (i.e. free onsite car parking to attend the workshop)
- Alternate travel voucher (e.g. reimbursement for public transport)
- Food voucher for use at one of the food outlets within the hospital while you wait
- Participating children will be gifted a small token of appreciation
- Snacks and drinks will be provided for children during the workshop
Where will the workshop take place?
The workshop will take place at The Royal Children's Hospital, 50 Flemington Road Parkville, Victoria 3052.
What can parents do while their child is in the workshop?
There will be a room available to parents and caregivers while the workshop is taking place. Alternatively, you can choose to find food and drinks in one of the outlets available in the main atrium on the ground floor of the hospital.

Voice of the Child
This workshop is part of a project called The Voice of the Child. It is building knowledge about how to meaningfully involve children and young people in the work we do within our organisation including research and clinical care. We believe that involving them in health research and child/adolescent health service delivery and design is not just an ethical obligation, it's a right. We believe that children and young people have unique and important perspectives, ideas and expertise about their own lives that can enhance the relevance, quality and impact of our work, and will allow us to benefit even more children. Insights gained from our workshops with children will contribute to an evidence-based, user-friendly toolkit designed to facilitate the active involvement of children and young people in health research and service design and delivery throughout our organisation.
