Child Public Health: integrating evidence, policy and practice
06/08/2025
In July, the Education and Learning team co-facilitated the Child Public Health subject as part of the University of Melbourne’s Master of Public Health program. This six-day intensive brought together a cohort of 29 passionate students committed to improving health outcomes for children and families.
Over the course of five days, students engaged with 26 expert presenters from across clinical, research, policy, government, and not-for-profit sectors. These contributors shared invaluable insights from their fields, offering students a multi-dimensional view of the systems that shape child public health in Australia and beyond.
The final day of the program saw students deliver 20-minute group presentations, showcasing new and innovative approaches to tackling child health issues. The presentations highlighted not only the students’ critical thinking and creativity, but also their growing capacity to lead change in complex systems.
A sincere thank you to Cathy Archer, whose outstanding work in administering the timetable and coordinating all 26 speakers was integral to the program’s success. We also gratefully acknowledge Sarah Konig and Alisha Gulenc for their thoughtful co-facilitation and reflections throughout the course.
This subject exemplifies the Education and Learning team’s commitment to workforce capacity building and the integration of evidence, policy and practice. It also highlights the power of strong partnerships—particularly the enduring collaboration between the Centre and the University of Melbourne—to enrich learning and drive meaningful change in the child public health landscape.
