What is Thriving Kids?

07/02/2026

Thriving Kids is an opportunity to build equitable, inclusive systems that support the development and wellbeing of all children in Australia.

The Thriving Kids Advisory Group recently released their final report outlining their proposed national model for the initiative.

Thriving Kids will establish services and supports run by states and territories, outside of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It aims to identify children with additional developmental needs as early as possible, to ensure that evidence-based supports can be as effective as possible. Browse the Centre's dedicated resource page for policy submissions, research and practice guides from across the Centre supporting the implementation of Thriving Kids.

The Thriving Kids Advisory Group is co-chaired by Professor Frank Oberklaid AM, alongside The Hon Mark Butler, MP.

In last week's episode of ABC’s Insiders on Background, David Speers interviewed Professor Oberklaid on the findings of the report and the implementation of Thriving Kids. Watch the segment below.
